RNC Platform Committee Update

The National Committee met via conference call this past week and discussed initial arrangements for the 2008 Platform Committee and the process of developing the platform that will be proposed to the National Convention in September.

RNC Chairman Mike Duncan announced the appointment of the Platform Committee Chairman, Congressman Kevin McCarthy, a pro-life freshman from California.  The committee's Executive Director will be Steven Duffield, the former senior policy advisor to Senator John Kyle (AZ).  Duffield was heavily involved in Senate efforts to push for approval of President Bush's judicial nominees, especially the nominations of John Roberts and Sam Alito.

Platform sub-committee chairs will not be decided until all states have finished the process of electing their National Convention delegates.

They put out a call for input from as many state party organizations as possible, and I suggested to our State Executive Committee that we submit the platform of the SCGOP as a model for the RNC's consideration.  Everyone agreed this was a good idea, and I am forwarding a copy to the new Platform Committee Chairman.
